Bocce Court Backyard
Installation by Southern Trillium, initial design by garden designer Bernie Kida. All new wall, court, patio, sod, and plantings to create this unique backyard.
Succulent Detail
A mixed succulent garden was installed between the new wall and bocce court. Some succulents will overwinter, others will be replaced. But this will require minimal maintenance and almost no water along the bocce court.
Floating Bench
A floating bench built out of Ipe wood is set into the nook of the new stone wall. The seat overlooks the new bocce court in the garden.
Garden Swimming Pool
What was an outdated swimming pool with an elevated glass tile hot tub is now a beautiful and relaxing space. The hot tub was removed and a large stream with 3 waterfalls was installed on the upper level of the pool. A mixed planting adds further interest to area. A pool does not have to be a sea of concrete decking.
Swimming Pool Stream
A natural looking stream feeds into the swimming pool off photo right. Large stepping stones allow walking across the stream, enjoying the garden around.
Custom Cedar Gate
A custom cedar gate designed and built by us. No visible hardware. The interior panel floats inside a slot in the carefully built frame.
Natural Garden Modern House
A natural woodland garden now exists behind this recently remodeled modern home. The pavers were reclaimed from the remodeling of the house.

Although it appears dry-stacked, this is a mortared retaining wall. It measures over 3 feet tall and is built using a mixture of stone.

Set along a path around a house, this garden area provides a place to stop and relax while enjoying the water feature.
Outdoor Room
This is a true focal point and destination of a garden. The stone walls are traditional dry-stack walls, built without any mortar. The timber frame structure is built with solid cedar posts and beams. Nearly every connection on the structure is mortise and tenon, held together with wooden pegs.

This is but one view of an exquisite Japanese garden that was designed and installed by one of the founding members of Southern Trillium. The footbridge creates a wonderful path along the pond edge as one heads to the teahouse.

This custom fence was designed and installed by Southern Trillium to create a stunning entry to this client’s backyard. This is a true entry point to a garden.

This water feature is installed amidst an all new foundation planting. The pondless water feature sets the mood to all visitors as they near the home.
Curb Appeal
This is a front yard that we completely renovated. The design style carries an asian influence. The old brick retaining wall was replaced with the new stone wall. All new plantings were installed in the front yard. The custom arbor and gate lead the guest around the house to the backyard garden.
Pondless water feature
We designed a bird friendly backyard for these clients. To provide a water source, we installed this small, slow moving pondless stream. The stone bridge provides access to a new small flagstone patio for outdoor entertaining.
Secret Garden
This is secret garden that we designed and installed. The main area is hidden from view as you begin walking along the path. The edging of the path then begins to turn as you see it become the fiddlehead of a fern frond.
Pond and waterfall
Looking across one of our ponds, you can see the long waterfall as it meanders down the hill and spills into the pool.
Stone Firepit
A gas burning firepit completes the atmosphere for an outdoor living space.
Dry Streambed
We design and install many dry streambeds. A properly installed dry streambed can help handle runoff while being a focal point in the garden. Here is one of our streambeds after a heavy rain.
Antique Millstone Fountain
We designed and built this custom water feature to showcase an antique granite millstone. The millstone measures 4 feet across and weighs around 600 pounds.
